A high speed robot assembles components and can continue to make products as long as the parts bin are replenished. Human error occurs and the operator forgets to refill the parts bin. The machine stops and an alarm is displayed on the HMI (“Spring Bin is Empty”). The downtime event caused 10 to 15 minutes of loss production and in a high speed production assembly, this translates to thousands of dollars of lost revenue. In a perfect world it is easy to calculate the projected levels of required parts to keep the bins replenished and the machine running but due to inconsistencies of machine reliability, it is difficult to predict latency, variability and the rate of material consumption. SORBA advanced control and machine learning algorithms can predict consumption rates based on operating variability by creating dynamic models of the process automatically adjusting the model based on real world conditions. Alerts are sent to line operators providing early indication parts bin will be empty with a projected fail time.
